2011 chevrolet traverse review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Great for hauling people and cargo. introductionthe chevrolet traverse is a large crossover suv that seats seven or eight. Built more like a car than a truck, the traverse is surprisingly nimble, with handling more like that of a family sedan than a big suv. we found the steering direct and responsive, if light, and the brakes easy to modulate for nice smooth stops. The ride is comfortable and much more stable than that of truck-based suvs, which tend to lean in corners and bound over undulations. Though no lightweight, the traverse is significantly lighter than a chevrolet tahoe, allowing the traverse to deliver superior fuel economy and handling. traverse comes with a 3. 6-liter v6 that moves it ably from a stop and provides decent passing punch. The v6 makes 281 horsepower, or 288 with the available dual exhaust system, and it comes with a smooth-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is available for improved stability in wintry conditions. fuel economy numbers are better than those of most truck-type suvs, but they're less than for the average family car. Fuel economy is an epa-estimated 16/23 mpg city/highway with all-wheel drive or 17/24 mpg with front-wheel drive. The second- and third-row seats fold flat to open up a generous cargo area. Even with all the seats up, there is enough room behind the third row for a week's worth of groceries, and an available power liftgate makes it easy to access those groceries. cloth or leather, the front seats are comfortable and supportive. Room in the first and second rows is plentiful, and the third row is bigger than most and is even useful for adults. The dashboard is attractive, but there's more obvious plastic inside than we'd like at this price point. The controls are easy to reach and operate. Plus, it gets better mileage and is more space efficient. in short, we think the chevrolet traverse is an excellent family vehicle. for 2011, changes are minimal. Aside from some new colors, the optional usb port has been relocated to the storage bin in the upper instrument panel. It connects portable music devices to the vehicle’s audio system and charges batteries of some hand-held items. Heated cloth seats are offered on the 2011 traverse lt. lineupthe 2011 chevrolet traverse is offered in ls, lt, and ltz trim levels, each with front-wheel drive (fwd) or all-wheel drive (awd). Ls and lt models have a 281-horsepower 3. 6-liter v6 mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Traverse 1lt fwd 31,865) and 1lt awd 33,865) models add an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, heated power mirrors with turn signals, a trip computer, rear park assist, and p255/65r18 tires on alloy wheels. Other options include a cargo convenience package 130) with a rear cargo cover and cargo net; trailering package 525) with a heavy-duty engine cooler and a trailer hitch; two-panel sunroof 1,400) with a fixed rear panel; a dvd rear entertainment system 2,430) that includes the bose sound system, rear audio controls, and a 115-volt outlet; a dual-screen rear dvd entertainment system 2,010); chrome side steps 635). safety features include dual front airbags, torso-protecting front side airbags, head-protecting side-curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, tire-pressure monitor, traction control and electronic stability control with rollover mitigation. Rear park assist and a rearview camera are optional. walkaroundchevrolet traverse shares its architecture with the buick enclave and gmc acadia. It's built using unit-body construction similar to that of a car rather than bolting the body to a heavy truck frame. Also, it's a front-wheel-drive platform. Traverse is longer but narrower than the chevrolet tahoe full-size suv. though large, the traverse has a soft, sleek, modern appearance. up front, the traverse features an attractive version of chevrolet's split grille. The headlights start next to the grille and wrap around the front fenders. Horizontal fog lights mirror the headlights about six inches lower. A black air dam below the grille gives the front end a dark lower face. A peak at the center of the hood continues down through the grille and fascia, adding a touch of character. from the side, the traverse appears to have short overhangs for an suv. The window line rises to the rear and that angle increases at the rear windows. A character line is located about a third of the way up each door, and the black front fascia is picked up along the sides by black plastic over the rocker panels. Large wheels and tires keep everything in proportion. Up top, the traverse has optional black roof rails and an available two-panel sunroof with a fixed rear panel and an opening front panel. at the rear, the traverse features dark tailgate glass that dips down toward the center. The tailgate lifts up and does not have a separate opening glass. The center peak from the front is repeated here, as is the black lower fascia treatment. The total design is well thought out, smooth and stylish. interiorinside, the chevy traverse makes great use of its best-in-class space. It's both a superb people hauler and a terrific cargo hauler. the front seats are comfortable and supportive, whether trimmed in cloth or leather, with lots of head room and leg room. the second-row bench seat fits three adults easily and there is plenty of head and leg room. With the second-row captain's chairs, there is a handy walkthrough to the third row. Three children can ride comfortably in the third row, and there is also enough head and leg room for two adults to fit back there. Adults won't be comfortable during long trips, though, because of the low height of the seat cushions. cargo space is aplenty. Traverse has more cargo space behind the third-row seat (24. 4 cubic feet) than any midsize suv. Underneath the floor is a handy, though shallow storage bin. With the second and third rows folded down, cargo volume is an impressive 116. 4 cubic feet, near the top of the class and almost eight cubic feet more than what's available in the full-size tahoe. Those two rear rows fold easily, each with the flick of a lever, creating a nearly flat load floor. A strap on each section of the split third-row bench makes it easy to pull the seatbacks upright from the tailgate area. An available power rear liftgate also eases access to the cargo area. getting in and out is easy because the traverse sits lower than traditional truck-based suvs. Still, the driver is perched higher than in a car and therefore has a clear view of the road ahead. Visibility to the front is generally good, but the traverse is bigger than it feels, so it can be tough to see over the driver's right shoulder and objects immediately behind might be hidden from view. With this in mind, it makes sense to get the rearview camera. Not only does it add an element of safety, helping avoid the tragic mistake of backing over a child, it also proves to be highly useful in everyday parking situations, making maneuvering in tight quarters easier and quicker. up front, the driver is surrounded by an attractively designed dashboard that has nice graining but uses more.

Silverado was last redesigned for 2007. Xfe versions feature aerodynamic upgrades in the form of a soft bed cover and extended front air dam, plus aluminum wheels (including the spare) and lower front suspension arms, locking rear differential, and low rolling resistance tires. Epa ratings are 21/22 mpg. Tow ratings are available to 6100 pounds, and maximum payload is in the 1,400-pound range. for 2011, silverado gets few changes. Lt models can be upgraded with premium cloth front bucket seats with six-way power adjustment, dual-zone automatic temperature controls, audio controls mounted on the steering wheel, fog lamps, aluminum wheels, chromed bumper, and a spare tire lock. silverado ltz 35,280 for extended cab, 2wd) adds heavy-duty trailering equipment, an automatic locking rear differential, body-colored bumpers, reclining and heated leather front seats with 12-way power, an in-dash six-cd changer with bose speakers, 18-inch wheels, turn signal indicators in the exterior rearview mirrors, and heated windshield washers. extended cab and crew cab models have back seats and windows in the side doors that power down. The extended cab has rear access doors hinged at the rear that open to 170 degrees to provide full access to the rear seating area. The regular cab can be outfitted with a standard bed (6-foot, 6-inch) or long bed (8-foot). The short bed (5-foot, 8-inch) is the only bed available on the crew cab. five suspensions are available: z83 is the standard setup designed for a smooth ride; z85 is a little firmer for enhanced handling and towing; z71 is for off-road driving and includes 18-inch wheels; z60 is for maximum street performance and includes 20-inch wheels; nht is for maximum towing capacity (bigger rear axle with locking differential, hd cooling, and so forth) and includes high-capacity rear springs as well as all-terrain tires. option prices vary by trim level and body style. Among them: a power sliding sunroof 995), a power sliding rear window 250), rear-seat entertainment system 1,480), and am/fm with navigation system 2,250). Options on lesser models include the locking differential 325) and various levels of towing packages. safety features on all silverado models include dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes, tire-pressure monitoring system, side-curtain airbags, and stabilitrak electronic stability control with rollover mitigation technology. walkaroundthe chevy silverado may not have the aggressive styling of some other pickups, but its upright design may be considered appealing to its faithful customers, and they buy hundreds of thousands of silverados each year. We think it's quite attractive. a raked windshield (angled at 57 degrees) and careful aerodynamic and body-building engineering make the truck quiet on the inside and contribute to fuel efficiency. Gm boasts that the silverado and gmc sierra are the first full-size trucks to offer both 300 horsepower and epa highway ratings of 20 miles per gallon or better. the large, gold chevy bowtie badge is set against a wide, three-bar chrome grille. The grille is flanked by stacked headlights sporting the latest reflector optics. The front bumper incorporates rectangular fog lights. the hood has a wide power dome. Bulging front fenders wrap over the front wheels and incorporate the headlights within their forward sweep. Likewise, the rear quarter panels are punctuated by large faired wheel wells. the rear view of the truck features stacked tail lights on either side of a tall tailgate that has a sculpted center section that mimics and inverts the shape of the fender flares. built on what general motors calls its gmt900 platform, the silverado shares much of its underpinnings with the tahoe suv, though the pickup gets a unique rear suspension and a frame section 245-percent stiffer than that of the suv. The current silverado chassis is far more rigid than that of the previous generation, which allowed the engineers to reduce the gaps between the truck bed and passenger compartment and between fenders and bumpers. This stiffer frame also allows suspension components to be designed for improved ride and handling characteristics as well as allowing enhanced aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. the front suspension uses coil-over shock absorbers and the rack-and-pinion steering gear is mounted to the engine crossmember to provide enhanced control and feedback. The silverado benefits from a rear axle design featuring shock absorbers mounted outboard and more upright for better dynamic control than that of the previous-generation models. interiorthe silverado wt, ls and lt come with what chevrolet calls the pure pickup interior while the ltz features a more luxurious interior. the pure pickup interior is more driver and work oriented, includes two glove boxes in the dashboard, one of them just about the right size to hold a pair of work gloves and a few small items, and a 40/20/40-split front bench seat with the center section of the seat back folding down to form a wide arm rest with lots of storage capacity. This interior features large switchgear controls and interior door handles designed to be easily manipulated even while wearing bulky gloves. the more luxury-oriented interior includes bucket seats with a permanent center console with 20 liters of storage capacity. The center stack puts ventilation and audio controls within easy site and reach of the front seat passenger. This version has a single glove box in the dash. headlights are more or less controlled by twisting a rotary knob on the dash to the left of the steering wheel. An identical knob to the right is used to switch between 2wd and 4wd. We found it's easy to switch to 4wd, while trying to switch off the headlights. xm satellite radio with current traffic conditions and bluetooth may be ordered, or alternately, onstar with destination download and turn-by-turn navigation. We like both. extended cab models feature stadium-style seating with an elevated view for those sitting in the second row. Both the extended cab and crew cab versions offer plenty of rear legroom. The rear-seat bottoms can be easily folded up to provide more room on the floor for cargo.
